The term 'aikido' emerged around 1942 out of the study of a number of Japanese martial arts by Morihei Ueshiba (1883–1969) also known as O Sensei - the founder of aikido. 'Ki-aikido' represents a further refinement by Tohei Sensei (10th dan) who focused on a more direct study and experience of the mysteries of 'ki'.

Through these teaching methods ki-aikido became a unique way of finding an effortless source of power within ourselves. It becomes a way to promote harmony of mind and body in daily life that does not rely on initial levels of physical strength or fitness and is practiced without either a competitive or fighting mind.

Ki-aikido can be studied by people of all ages and the club hopes to form a junior section for 14-16 year olds alongside the adult class.

To try for yourself just turn up at 7:10pm on a Thursday evening at Falfield Village Hall, A38, GL12 8DH. Wear loose clothing or bring a judo type 'gi'. Classes are 2 hours duration and finish at 9:30pm. Cost £10. (£5 for juniors).

Taught by Sensei John Dykes. [email: KiPathAikido@GMX.co.uk]
