Bowling with a disability Open Day at Olveston Bowling Club

These Celebration Matches also celebrate clubs with significant milestones and achievements.
At Olveston Bowls Club in 2024 one of their coaches Alan Lambourne, won the Bowls England National Award For Diversity and Inclusion. This was achieved by raising money for a large amount of bowling aids, plus with the clubs support changing and improving the clubs' facilities all in the aid of diversity and inclusion. The club hasn't sat back and with the aid of Alan, are trying to raise money for the purpose of buying hearing equipment. This is to help those people who suffer with some form of loss, the full enjoyment of the sport whether it's on or off the green.
The celebration day will start at 10 O'clock, with the aim and purpose to encourage members of the public young or old to come and try this great sport and to show them that it is a fully open, unrestrictive sport, even with a disability.
They will have the chance to have ago with the use of aids, if required and under the supervision of qualified coaches. They can chat to other experts within the field and meet International Disabled Players. You will meet a wide range of players with differing needs, from the visually impaired, players who have lost limbs, wheel chair users and others with diverse needs.
In the afternoon starting at 1400 hrs there will be a Celebration match between an Olveston select team v Bowls England Para team. You will be amazed by the standard and competitiveness of the para team. So sit down, with a drink to hand and enjoy, as the para team demonstrate the ease of the game.
